Movie News: GOTG 3 coming, no Taikia, The Batman set for 2021, James Gunn will recast Suicide Squad

Just some updates to keep you up to date and well, take some interest in some rumors or latest stories.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3

As director James Gunn has moved on to the other side of the tracks, helming Suicide Squad 2 (see more below), the project has landed in a state of limbo.

Star Chris Pratt has now insisted that the movie is still in the works. “I promise there’ll be a third movie, I don’t know exactly what that’s going to look like, but I know everyone on board is just eager to give the fans what they want and wrap up a trilogy in a meaningful way.”

“We’re still circling the city of Jericho, I like to say,” Pratt added in what’s hopefully a sign that things are looking up for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

For Pratt, the new Lego Movie promotion will likely bring a battery of more questions, so stay tuned in case something else interesting pops up.

No Taika for GOTG 3

Some may have thought that Taika Waititi would be the perfect fit to take over the project, but he doesn’t seem interested AT ALL.

At today’s FX TCA today, Thor: Ragnarok director said he’s definitely not directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3., “however I’m still hanging out with those guys (Marvel) and talking about new stuff.

“I want to do another movie with them,” said Waititi.

“For me, those are James (Gunn)’s films. Going into something like that with his stamp all over his films, would be like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now. It feels kind of awkward.”

The Batman

Comic Book Movie summarized a ton of the updates as followed:

  • The Batman will no longer star Ben Affleck
  • Matt Reeves’ script comes in at a whopping 160 pages
  • The Batman is set to be released on June 25th, 2021
  • Reeves dodged questions about Josh Gad playing Penguin: “I love Josh Gad. We’re good friends.”

James Gunn’s Suicide Squad will be a reboot, with a new cast!

Fans are likely excited about having Gunn take over Suicide Squad, but may be shocked to learn IT WILL BE A REBOOT of sorts.

From that story at Rotten Tomatoes, who “…learned that yes, Gunn is now in talks with Warner Bros. to direct a film to be called The Suicide Squad (8/6/2021), which is being described as a relaunch of the concept. Gunn is expected to use an almost entirely new group of super villains, which means that most of the characters that appeared in the 2016 movie will not return for The Suicide Squad. (We’re thinking here of The Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, etc.) There have been dozens of Suicide Squad members in the comics, so there are lots of possibilities, including characters like Bronze Tiger, Killer Frost, King Shark, Major Disaster, and Vixen.”
