‘Mothra’ riffed by MST3K’s Michael Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy, encore August 23
Mothra arrived back in theaters this month, this time to be roasted by Rifftrax, Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett.
From the trio at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee, Mothra was mocked, teased and fully “riffed” with celebrity gags, insults and remarks worthy of their MST3K roots.
The encore showing is on Tuesday, August 23 at 7:30 p.m. local time.
“‘Mothra’ has always been on our ‘we have to do this’ list, so I’m excited we finally got our hands on it,” Nelson had said ahead of the screening, brought to theaters via Fathom Events.
“Aside from my being a fan of giant larvae, the movie itself is goofy and really fun to look at. It’s perfect for us.”
Mothra follows a group of explorers who travel to a remote island, kidnap two tiny women, incite the wrath of a giant larvae which then swims the ocean, cocoons itself in downtown Tokyo, emerges as the titular “Mothra” and destroys everything in its path.
In fact, the film is so atrocious, it distracts from a few of the gags, you’ve been warned.
Ahead of the film is a trio bagging on a vintage PSA promoting proper hygeine and it proves to be hysterically disturbing, do be tardy and miss out!
Up next will be “RiffTrax Live: Carnival of Souls,” broadcast live to select movie theaters across the country on Thursday, October 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. CT and tape delayed to 7:00 p.m. MT / 8:00 p.m. PT, with an All Hallows’ Eve encore on Monday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. local time.
