Morgan Freeman talks ‘Dark Knight Rises,’ good versus evil

While promoting the TV show “Through the Wormhole,” Morgan Freeman spoke freely and directly about his role in the highly anticipated Batman film, “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Speaking with the Chicago Tribune on Wednesday, Freeman discusses the “Wormhole” topics before being asked if his character, Lucious Fox, survives “Rises.”

“Yeah.”

Morgan-Freeman-Dark-KnightThe succinct response is almost comical to most fans, who assume Fox will survive the Batman film. “Rises” is the final chapter in the Christopher Nolan directed trilogy, so the Oscar winning actor answered what it feels like to wrap up the series.

“I don’t see it so much as being done with it. It’s the end of a chapter, that’s all.”

One topic on “Through the Wormhole” is evil and Freeman was asked if we can eliminate evil and how he defines evil.

“No. You cannot. Because if you eliminate evil you’ll also eliminate good…Evil is the opposite of good. Like up is the opposite of down, left is the opposite of right. You only have one because you have the other.”

Freeman returns for the third Batman film, reprising his role as the tech genius behind Batman’s gadgets and equipment. “Rises” pits a new villain, Bane, who terrorizes Gotham City drawing Batman out of retirement. Catwoman and a mysterious role by “Batman Begins” villain Ra’s al Ghul also factor into the story.

Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine join Freeman in reprising their roles from the first two Batman films. Tom Hardy (Bane), Anne Hathaway (Catwoman), Josh Pence, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard join the cast in this final installment.

“The Dark Knight Rises” comes to theaters on July 20, 2012.
