‘Morbius’ adds Sean Harris, ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ and Sean Gunn talks ‘GOTG 3’
Just a couple of misc. movie updates.
Morbius
First up is casting news for the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off, Morbius as Jared Harris has signed on. Deadline broke the news that Harris has been cast in Morbius, in which Jared Leto is set to star as Dr. Michael Morbius, a famous biochemist who attempts to cure a fatal blood disease by injecting himself with a serum derived from bats. So, of course, this backfires and transforms the doctor into a monster who sometimes fights Spider-Man and sometimes fights evil.
Harris’ role is being kept under wraps. The actor is mostly known for playing sinister villains, the most famous being Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
The film will be directed by Daniel Espinosa from a script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, the showrunners of Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot.
Expect more official details as Leto shared a set photo HERE, so production is set to ramp up.
Morbius opens summer 2020.
Sherlock Holmes 3
Since we were talking Sherlock…yes, we were, read it again.
Deadline reports that Sherlock Holmes 3 has been kicked back to Christmas 2021. It’s previous 2020 date will now go to an untitled Warner Bros. Event Film.
Guardians 3
While the rumors are all over the map on the fate of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Guardians actor (and brother of James Gunn) Sean Gunn, says things will eventually work themselves out.
Somehow.
During the red carpet for Captain Marvel this week, Sean Gunn, who plays Kraglin in the franchise and served as the on-set stand in for Rocket Raccoon, told Variety that he’s confident the film will deliver for fans.
“I don’t know exactly how that’s all gonna work…but I feel like we are going to make the third movie, I’m excited to make it, I think it’s a disservice to the fans if we didn’t make it and I know the people who worked on the Guardians movies are really a family, and we’re gonna come together and make the best movie we can regardless of who’s in charge. … I just have this feeling everything’s gonna work itself out.”
This is more or less in line with what star Chris Pratt said last month, proclaiming: “We’re gonna deliver the movie. We’re gonna give the fans what they deserve…It’s in the nature of the Guardians of the Galaxy to get the job done, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
Recent remarks to Collider by Kevin Feige revealed that GOTG Vol. 3 is still very much on hold, pointing to other projects which are a bigger priority right now.
“I mean, when it was pushed back, it was pushed back. Meaning the release date, because it’s not coming out—although we’ve never announced a release date actually, but it was gonna happen sooner rather than later, initially of course. Outside of knowing that we’re gonna use [James Gunn’s] draft, [we have] been focusing on other projects.”
It’s probably noteworthy that schedule change likely impacted the schedule of the all-star cast, which is juggling amazing franchise films: Zoe Saldana on Avatar 2-4, Chris Pratt on Jurassic World 3, Dave Bautista on Dune…just a name the top headliners.
