‘Moms’ Night Out’ Blu-ray/DVD Review: Funny Christian film with ‘inspired’ bonus features
“The best Christian/faith-based film of the year” says Jake from The Global Dispatch. While this sounds like a bold statement, the Blu-ray/DVD release of Moms’ Night Out truly cements the film as a crowd-pleaser and useful tool for Christians for years to come.
Writer Jon Erwin told The Dispatch that he and his brother, director Andrew Erwin, wanted to make a mayhem film that the whole family could watch and audiences wouldn’t be embarrassed to watch with their mothers.
Moms’ Night Out centers on Allyson, a stressed out mother who sets out on a night to escape with two of her friends, leaving the kids with their fathers and a friend. The subsequent events lead to a night of chaos, strange coincidences and a ton of laughs. Through the adventure, couples find redemption, hope and reconciliation.
The Blu-ray/DVD special features offer more laughs and a look an the “inspired” cast and crew behind the film. It’s truly moving to see and hear about the Erwins and producer/c0-star Kevin Downes sharing the creative process with their wives, even on set. Featurettes The Heart of MOMS’ NIGHT OUT, Casting MOMS’ NIGHT OUT, The Art of Improv and The Art of Action bring the audience in deeper with the creators and their goal to glorify moms.
Normally actor profiles and interviews are pretty benign on special features, but on Mom’s Night Out, coupled with Alex Kendrick’s devotion, give fans a look how real life testimonies and inspirational filmmakers can be doing the work of the Lord.
