Missing student, Tony Mahr found dead in Sacramento River, Brenston Rhodes arrested for different crime
Butte County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the body found in the Sacramento River just west of Chico Thursday morning after a fisherman is the California State University, Chico student Anthony “Tony” Mahr.
Butte County Search and Rescue responded to the Sacramento River just south of Highway 32.
Mahr, 22, was found floating in the Sacramento River in California on Thursday morning, nine days after he went missing during an outing with friends after falling from a raft.
The body of an adult man was recovered about a quarter of a mile upstream from Scotty’s Boat Landing
The student, a senior at Cal State, is from Roseville, allegedly drowned as Brenston Rhodes, 22, told police that Mahr’s floating device had failed in the river and Mahr went underwater.
Rhodes apparently explained their tubes had hit a snag and he and two friends had fallen into the river.
Deputies found the other person who fell, Lavina Corsbie, 22, in the Chico area Tuesday night after she was able to swim to safety after her tube hit a snag.
Deputies with the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office and California State Parks have been assisting with the search.
Rhodes has been arrested on a separate crime, allegedly burglarizing a home, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Police consider all of their investigation ongoing.
