Missing North Carolina woman, Ruzie Suggs, found dead in woods 70 miles away

Authorities say hunters have found the body of a 90-year-old Burlington woman missing for four weeks in woods about 70 miles away in Halifax County, Virginia.

Investigators say Ruzie Suggs’ body was found Saturday morning near her 2005 Cadillac Deville. Her miniature gray poodle Pierre was found near her, still alive.

Burlington police report that Suggs was last seen on September 8 when she dropped a friend off in Greensboro (North Carolina).

Preliminary speculation is that the woman got confussed, drove in the wrong direction, possibly off a rural road between South Boston and Clarksville, Virginia.

Cell phone records indicate Suggs tried to make several phone calls early on September 9, but they did not go through.

The remains are being sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond, Va., for positive identification and examination.
