Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke blames Black Lives Matter for Baton Rouge shooting

During an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said he predicted the recent police shootings in Baton Rouge and place the bulk of the blame on Black Lives Matter. Check out the clips below.

“I’ve been watching this for two years. I’ve predicted this,” Clarke said. “This anti-police rhetoric sweeping the country has turned out some hateful things inside of people that are now playing themselves out on the American police officer.”

Clarke blamed the Black Lives Matter movement for inspiring violent crimes against law enforcement officers, calling the group “purveyors of hate.”

Clarke argued that their ideology was false, saying there is no data that proves law enforcement officers treat black males more aggressively than white males.

“This anti-cop sentiment from this hateful ideology called Black Lives Matter has fueled this rage against the American police officer,” Clarke said.

At one point Clarke calls out President Obama’s lies on police crime, prejudice towards blacks and Lemon struggles to respond, just saying that’s not true.

More bits.

Asked if he would echo a “message of peace and coming together for the country,” Clarke refused to regurgitate the usual rhetoric.

“You don’t believe that for one moment do you?” Clarke asked Lemon, before continuing, “Any protests over the deaths of these cops today in Baton Rouge? Any riots or protests over the police officers in Dallas, Texas?”

“This anti-police rhetoric sweeping the country has turned out some hateful things inside of people that are now playing themselves out on the American police officer,” he asserted, before slamming Black Lives Matter for ignoring black on black violence.

“When the tragedies happened in Louisiana and Minnesota, do you know that 21 black people were murdered across the United States – was there any reporting on it?”

Lemon then tried to shut down that line of conversation, before Clarke became more irate.

“I’m looking at three dead cops this week and I’m looking at five last week – you’re trying to tell me to keep it down?” he asked Lemon, who responded by demanding more “civility”.

“Don, I wish you had that message of civility toward this hateful ideology, these purveyors of hate,” said Clarke.

The Louisiana shooter, Gavin Long, killed three law enforcement officers (one was black) and wounded three others. Emotions have run high in the area after the Alton Sterling death, which was exploited by Black Lives Matter to garner support while riling anger against police.
