Milwaukee man, Dajuan Key, sentenced to 22 years in jail for human trafficking of teen girl

A Milwaukee man was sentenced Wednesday to almost 22 years in prison, according to federal official, for trafficking a teen girl, treating her as a sex slave in the Chicago area.

Dajuan Key, also known as Dejuan Key, was convicted in February of transporting a minor across state lines to engage in prostitution. The 15-year-old Madison girl was forced her into sex work at Chicago-area motels. Key used postings on backpage.com, a classified as site, to connect with the girl in the fall of 2013.

Key, 32, pimped the girl and other women, was trolling the site to find a replacement girl after one left. Court documents claim that he found the girl, “an emotionally vulnerable 15-year-old girl, with an unstable family, who had run away from home—the perfect prey.”

Two years later, Dajuan Key is finally sentenced in human trafficking case

The girl was kidnapped after being led to believe Key was visiting his family in Milwaukee, but drove her to Romeoville, where he forced her to prostitute herself at two different Romeoville motels for two days, according to the complaint.

“While in Romeoville, (Key) capitalized on (the girl’s) desperate situation … brought her lingerie, forced her to pose for photos that he used on Backpage.com and instructed her (on) what to tell clients who replied to the advertisement,” according to the filing.

The man promised to let her return home by using the money from sex with men to buy a bus ticket, but always abused the girl, taking the money and forcing her to continue prostituting herself.

Romeoville police rescued the girl in September 2013 at a local McDonald’s after she called her mother to ask for a ride home to Madison. Prosecutors said Judge Virginia Kendall sentenced him Tuesday to 262 months in prison — the maximum amount recommended for his crimes under federal sentencing guidelines, according to court records.

Key’s last known address was in Milwaukee, but he is from Chicago, according to the complaint.
