Mike Wallace described as ‘muckraker’ in Washington Times report of death

“Longtime CBS journalist and “60 Minutes” muckraking reporter Mike Wallace died last night at the Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, Connecticut. He was 93. ”

So began the Washington Times’ annoucement of Wallace’s passing.

While Wallace and “60 Minutes” gradually reduced this type of content on the show, the “ambush journalism” style was highly influential on the younger demographic both on the left and the right as exemplified by the confrontational styles of Michael Moore and the late Andrew Breitbart.

Moore, Breitbart and Wallace all being put in the same pool?

From the Times article reflecting on his career:

In a 2005 Fox News interview with his son, Chris, Wallace was asked if he understood the public’s increasing distrust of the mainstream news media.

“They think they’re wide-eyed commies. Liberals,” he fired back, noting he considered this position to be “damned foolishness.” Never really a propagandist himself, it’s probable that he never noticed the media’s shift toward blatant left-wing advocacy in recent years, something that was inconceivable to him.

More to the history between Wallace and The Times…maybe.

Interesting way to be remember and the report to the public.
