Mike Colter talks Luke Cage, power on Jessica Jones, being dark, gritty

While promoting the Ridley Scott-produced Halo: Nightfall, Mike Colter talked about his upcoming role as Luke Cage, first in Netflix’s AKA Jessica Jones before heading up his own show.

“Marvel actually gives you a special training class in how not to say too much in interviews [laughs]. We’re in the middle of shooting AKA Jessica Jones and Luke Cage is a very interesting character who just happens to have super strength and unbreakable skin,” he revealed to The List.

Luke_Cage_Noir_Vol_1_3“He’s a neighborhood hero, very much linked to New York and Jessica Jones. It’s all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but Luke Cage is a darker, grittier, more tangible character than Iron Man or Thor. He likes to keep things close to his chest, operate on the hush-hush. He has these abilities but he’s not sure how and when to use them. He’s a very nuanced character.

Colter adds in The List  interview that he will be staying busy, “Luke Cage will be taking up a lot of my time. Exactly where he’s going next I don’t know. I’m also working on Agent X with Sharon Stone so I’m juggling them at the moment.”

Luke Cage will first appear in 6 or 7 episodes of AKA Jessica Jones and then he’ll have his own standalone series on Netflix. Cage is convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. To take time off his sentence he participates in an experiment that ends up giving him super-strength and invulnerable skin. He then uses those powers to clear his name and to help other people that have been wronged.

Halo: Nightfall (Anchor Bay) is available on DVD and Blu-Ray from March 16.

Krysten Ritter will star opposite Colter as Jones with Doctor Who star David Tennant on board as the Purple Man. The show will also star Eka Darville, Rachael Taylor, Wil Traval, Leslie Lyles, Scott Martin, Christopher Parker and Carrie-Anne Moss.

AKA Jessica Jones is likely to debut in the fall of 2015.
