Michelle Bachmann: ‘I have decided next year I will not seek a fifth Congressional term’

Just a few short months after being reelected to her fourth term as Representative of Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann has already announced still will not run for reelection in 2014, according to a video message to constituents Tuesday.

The 57-year-old Bachmann said, “After serious consideration, I am confident this is the right decision.” Just as the President is limited to eight years in office, Bachmann says, eight years is long enough for a representative to serve in a congressional district.

Bachmann, early in her announcement, expresses two caveats that she says had nothing to do with her decision.

First, the Congresswoman says, “Be assured, my decision was not in anyway influenced by any concerns about my being reelected to Congress.

“I’ve always defeated candidates in the past that were capable, qualified and well-funded. And I have every confidence that if I ran, I would defeat the individual that I defeated last year.”

More interestingly, Bachmann second caveat is the recent inquiries into her presidential campaign.

As the New York Times reminds us, her announcement comes as the Office of Congressional Ethics looks into claims by Ms. Bachmann’s former campaign aides that she may have improperly used money raised by one of her House-affiliated political action committees to help her presidential bid in the run-up to the Iowa presidential caucuses in January 2012.

Mrs. Bachmann later goes on to discuss the future of the United States. “Unfortunately today I am even more concerned about our country’s future than I’ve ever been in the past, she said. “On so many issues, we’re clearly on the wrong track.”

She discusses a wide array of topics that fall under that umbrella–“ultimate risk of the destruction of our entire economic system”, Muslim Jihadi terrorists and issues of foreign policy.

Bachmann closes her video saying, “I fully anticipate the mainstream liberal media to put a detrimental spin, on my decision not to seek a fifth term.”
