Michael Raymond-James talks ‘Once Upon a Time’ season 2 finale, Neal, Baelfire and answered questions
Once Upon a Time likes to keep fans guessing by telling its characters’ stories in the non-linear fashion and Michael Raymond-James’ Baelfire is no exception. From the start in Fairy Tale Land as the son of the Evil One, Rumple to Neal, the guy whose car Emma tried to steal, the character’s role is pivotal but full of questions.
Talking with Buddy TV in a May 5 article, Raymond-James says his character may be looking forward to parenthood.
“He has some rough edges to be sure and he had for a long time lived on the periphery of society, but he’s always had a longing for what he’s discovered in being a father. He’s always wanted that.”
With THR on May 7, the actor described learning the “big secret” himself.
“When [Eddy and Adam] explained to me how they wanted to do the reveal (that Neal was Henry’s father and Gold was his), it was the idea of Neal walking around Manhattan with no explanation as to why. They wanted the audience to be like: “Are we watching the right f—ing show? Wait a second! Who and what is happening?!” They pitched me the whole arc of who Baelfire was for this season and I was hooked.”
Finally Raymond-James promised answers as season 2 comes to close.
“It’s coming, it’s coming! We’re almost there. I think a lot of people’s questions are going to be answered this Sunday and some of those answers you’re going to get are going to lead to more questions, but that’s the fun of a show like this. It’s constantly unfolding. You gotta buy the ticket and take the ride.”
