Michael Potts talks ‘True Detective,’ behind the scenes and Brother Mouzone from ‘The Wire’
EXCLUSIVE: Actor Michael Potts added another amazing role to his incredible resume with his role as Detective Gilbough on the HBO’s hit show True Detective. Potts fit in time to speak with The Global Dispatch/Dispatch Radio about the show, working with Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and creator Nic Pizzolatto.
“What was so great about this, and I say it to everybody: There was no ego, star ego on the part of Matthew or Woody,” Potts says, describing the set of True Detective. “They were actors. They really wanted to act with us,” he says before saying they treated him like a star.
Potts is incredibly well known for his role as Brother Mousone on The Wire, a role which was expanded because of Potts’ acting skills.
“People still go on about Brother Mousone,” Potts says before recounting an encounter the night before our interview with a rabid fan over dinner.
“I wasn’t expecting that at all,” he later adds, describing the legacy of Brother Mousone. “Especially with all of these incredible actors and storylines going on…Who is going to remember this guy?”
His extensive resume includes several memorable roles and we touch on a few briefly, including his unforgettable Yousef, “a gay, South Africa colonic hygienist” on Bored to Death.
Potts can currently be seen on Law & Order: SVU
