Michael Cera cast as Robin for ‘Lego Batman’ coming in 2017
Lego Batman has found his Lego sidekick as Michael Cera will voice the role of Robin in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Lego Batman feature film.
Cera joins Will Arnett, who reprises his role as the Caped Crusader from last year’s The Lego Movie. THR reported the news of the Arrested Development alum reuniting for the new film from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith. Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin are producing.
“Cera, additionally, has acquired the film rights to Masters of Atlantis, the novel by Charles Portis, the author who also wrote True Grit. Cera aims to write the adaptation as not only an acting vehicle but a directing project as well,” the THR also added.
“The humorous Atlantis, published in 1985, is set in the first half of the 20th century and tells of a young man who becomes entangled in a quasi-religious cult, centered on the lost city of Atlantis, named the Gnomon Society.”
Plot specifics on the Lego Batman movie are still under wraps with Lord teasing that the film would center around the question of whether Batman could ever truly be happy.
“Batman is the ultimate in white people problems,” he said earlier this year. “He’s like, ‘oh, I’m so rich and handsome, women like me and I’ve got a Maclaren! Something about my parents!”
The Lego Batman spinoff is set to open February 10, 2017
