Mentally disabled Australian teen, Matthew Allen, found after living in the ‘bush’ for weeks

The boy was “covered in leeches” and lived on “fish and frogs” in the Australian bush for nine weeks.

According to International Business Times,  Matthew Allen, age 18,  was found weighing eighty-four pounds lighter, suffering from gangrene on his legs, severe dehydration, and covered with leeches.

Matthew, who has a mental disability, was found less than two kilometres from his home after setting off into the bush more than two months ago. He lost up to 40kg in weight during his disappearance. It is understood he had intended to go into the outback, taking with him camping equipment and some money.

Two hikers found the teenager disorientated in an area of dense bushland.

Mother Deborah Allen said: “We don’t have any comment, other than that our priority is getting Matthew well.”

“After a land and air search the man was located and winched by a rescue helicopter. He was rushed to Hornsby Hospital suffering a number of exposure-related injuries, including exhaustion and dehydration. It’s believed he was in the bush the entire nine weeks he was missing. His family were notified and reunited with him at the hospital,” said Sydney police to the press.

THE MOST IMPORTANT SENTENCE IN THIS ARTICLE IS, “It is understood he had intended to go into the outback, taking with him camping equipment and some money.”

Matthew Allen IS AN ADULT. OBVIOUSLY, HIS MENTAL IMPAIRMENT IS NOT SEVERE – OTHERWISE, HE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALONE. SOMETIMES, THINGS CAN GO “AWRY.” THE “NO COMMENT” BY Mr. Allen’s MOTHER [Deborah] WAS QUITE TELLING; IT SEEMS SHE EVEN THINKS THE MEDIA WENT “OVERBOARD.”

[I can relate to this story. Forest-land surrounds my home; and, I have my share of mosquito bites, “Brown-recluse” spider-bites and fungal infections. Yes – my neighbors think I am strange; but, I am an adult].

“TRUMPED-UP” CHARGES OF MENTAL IMPAIRMENT HIDE THE SPOTLIGHT ON THOSE WITH SERIOUS PROBLEMS.
