MegaCon 2018: Jeff Goldblum talks Ian Malcolm, returning for ‘Jurassic World 2’ and that ‘Jurassic Park’ shirtless scene

During a panel at MegaCon, Jeff Goldblum talked about his famous Jurassic Park role, Ian Malcolm, and bringing the character back for the Jurassic World sequel: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

“I love playing Ian Malcolm, he’s one fun character,” Goldblum said, then theorized about what his character has been doing: “…I think he’s been writing some books while he’s been retired from the Dino business.”

Chris Pratt, Bryce-Dallas Howard, and B.D. Wong reprise their roles from Jurassic World. Goldblum makes a highly anticipated return as Dr. Ian Malcolm from the original Jurassic Park series.

The cast is rounded out by James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, and Isabella Sermon.

The Q&A was more about tweets and ideologies than audience participation. A couple of highlights centered about the parody box of Life cereal featuring Goldblum: “Life uhhh…finds a way.”

He confessed he was surprised and then they pressed on the shirtless scene from Jurassic Park.

“Yea, I’m not sure why that happened. It wasn’t scripted just happened and (Steven) Spielberg let it happen.”

Speaking to Yahoo back in March, Goldblum revealed what was really going on: “It’s supposed to be Costa Rica, right? So, things are hot and I’m sure I’m in some sort of fever. So, all the logic is that we gotta get some of these wet clothes off immediately. As I remember, I don’t think anybody fought me on that.”

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens in theaters on June 22, 2018.
