MegaCon 2017: Stan Lee charms the fans at panel, talks cameos, Spidey
As MegaCon kicked off another year, Stan “The Man” Lee, began to close out his convention legacy, previously announcing that this would be his final MegaCon.
After a brief introduction, the Marvel Comics creator and comic book legend addressed the most commonly asked question: Which superhero was his favorite?
“I’m sure you all know how Spider-Man has a nickname, Spidey. Have you ever heard of Supey or Batty (laughs) – that’s why Marvel rules!” Lee stated to the cheers of thousands crammed in the convention hall with an appearance of Spidey as his personal bodyguard.
“I wanted Peter Parker to be a schlep like I used to be,” Lee explained, praising the heroes creators. “…and nothing against Jack Kirby, but Steve Ditko is good at making schlep.”
Lee transitioned to a topic fans love to talk about: his cameos in all of the Marvel films.
“Let me run an idea by you: why isn’t there a Stan Lee cameo in every comic book. Sales would zoom, because they (the fans) wouldn’t want to miss a cameo,” he said confidently, promoting the new line of variant Marvel comic books, each with a Lee cameo.
Lee briefly talked his GOTG 2 cameo, speaking with The Watchers in two scenes.
“That was a huge step in my acting career, but I’m truly pushing for a Stan Lee movie…” he joked.
The famous creator is like a rock star at conventions like MegaCon and Lee’s whimsical attitude towards his legacy permeates each and every panel/interview. When asked about the Universal Studio Spider-Man ride, he joked that they “didn’t take any of my suggestions” before stating his favorite part is the street outside, named “Stan Lee Blvd.”
Part two of the panel to follow, so check back.
