MegaCon 2012 Experience: Star Wars, Celebs, Photos

Only at a monster science fiction, comic book, anime, movie and pop culture convention like MegaCon can you buy a Spider-Man comic, get it autographed by Stan Lee, pose for a photo with Draco Malfoy, sign-up for the anime costume contest, play with Legos and donate blood.

This weekend thousands and thousands of fans stormed through the Orange County Convention, only an hour or so for Tampa fans, to the largest convention of its type in the southeastern US – MegaCon.

“I got what I came for”, says Caleb, age 15, clinging to a Star Wars LEGO collectible figure after enjoying several hours with his dad at their first MegaCon.

The 501st Legion, a Star Wars organization bringing the characters to life for fans. The all-volunteer organization was onhand with Stormtroopeers, a Chewbacca, Princess Leia and many other fan favorites for photos and games.

There was an annual blood drive in one section of the convention hall as well as a gigantic Lego display and play area.

Hero Initiative, the non-profit organization that aids comic creators in medical and financial need, was also there in the craziness, posing for photos and entertaining fans young and old.

Of all of the celebrities that were present, one said it best: Cindy Morgan – “Isn’t it great!”

Morgan was describing the fervor fans have years and years after the initial excitement. From Star Wars icons like Peter Mayhew and David Prowse to Brent Spiner of Star Trek: The Next Generation or Joseph Morgan – fans had plenty of celebs to line up to see.
