Media, writers ignore or defend Alton Sterling’s sex offeder status, long criminal history
Snopes glosses over the sex offender facts to dismiss rumored gang ties circulated by Got News:
The East Baton Rouge Parish’s Sheriff’s Office listed Sterling as a “Tier 1” offender due to a 2000 conviction for carnal knowledge of a juvenile. This conviction, as well as arrests for domestic violence and weapons charges, were noted in reports about his death by mainstream media publications such as CNN and the New York Daily News:
Sterling was a registered sex offender, after a 2000 conviction for carnal knowledge of a juvenile, records show. The circumstances of the case were not immediately clear. Records say he was released for his offense in October 2004.
He was previously arrested for aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, unauthorized entry and domestic abuse battery, records show. In 2009, he was sentenced to five years in prison for marijuana possession and for carrying an illegal weapon with a controlled dangerous substance.
Battery (1998), sex with a minor (2000), domestic violence (2001), burglary (2005), stolen property, pot possession, firearm violations, resisting arrest and on and on Sterling’s record goes.
Alton Sterling is getting his “15 Minutes of Fame” memorialized as a caring father and innocent victim, when in fact, he was a lifelong criminal, disrespecting all of our laws and police. Peddling CDs didn’t get Sterling killed, HE DID.
I’m sad for Cameron and those who cared about Alton, but please stop with delusions and admit Alton had ISSUES and a long criminal past which put him in harm’s way. I wish he wasn’t dead, but he’d be in jail, continuing the same cycle, but at least there would be hope for his soul.
Pray for the family, this young man, to learn from the crisis and break the chains of this lifestyle.
