MEDIA BIAS: Chris Matthews invites Senator Corey Booker to dinner during interview on Obamacare repeal

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews asked Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) to dinner during an interview on “Hardball” Wednesday evening.

The discussion centered on the Republican efforts to replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, Booker said that Republicans are trying to “choke Obamacare dead” and stated that the fate of famous Obama law will “come down to a handful of Republican senators deciding not to go along with this.”

“We’ve seen some of them defect before, this allowed us to block things,” Booker continued, before reiterating his own support for Obamacare.

Matthews then asked Booker to have an off-camera dinner with him.

“Remember, you promised we’re going to have dinner some night,” Matthews said. “We have to have a sit-down dinner you and I, talk about all these issues, off camera, and learn about this challenge we face in this country.”

“Cause you’re a comer, people are talking about you, sir,” Matthews said, referring to speculation that Booker will seek the Democratic nomination for president in 2020. “I want to learn ahead about you. A lot of talk about Cory Booker, OK?”

“I appreciate it,” Booker replied. “Would you eat vegan?”

“No, no,” Matthews said. “But I could have a steak and you can have your, uh, potatoes. No, probably carrots.”

“Anyway, thank you, Sen. Cory Booker,” Matthews concluded. “We’ll find the right restaurant.”

Kathleen Matthews, executive vice president of Marriott International and former WJLA-ABC7 anchor and the MSNBC host’s wife, has thought about running for office and he actually has claimed he can be “fair.”
“I am proud of her and support her,” Matthews continued. “And if she does indeed decide to run for Congress, then we will make sure we continue to fully disclose my relationship — which I’ve never denied, with her — as part of our commitment here at MSNBC to be transparent and fair in our coverage.”
