Matt Damon to return for new ‘Bourne’ film, still set for 2016
A new Bourne film is coming. Now mixed reports on the Universal franchise indicate Matt Damon and creator Paul Greengrass could return which puts Jeremy Renner’s role in question.
Both Deadline and Latino Review are reporting that Matt Damon will return as the CIA spy/assassin who can’t remember how he got to be a CIA spy/assassin, teaming with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greenglass for a new Bourne collaboration.
Universal and Damon (and Greengrass for that matter) have denied rumors that the reunion was in the works, but the film’s release was delayed until 2016 and THR seems to cement the truth in the rumors.
“Universal had set a sequel to Legacy, which was to have been directed by Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin, for July 16, 2016, but there is now talk that the sequel could move to make room for the reunion movie,” the Sept. 15 article states.
This new plan may not even include Avengers star (Renner) as Aaron Cross, one of several genetically altered assassins for the CIA .
Kudos again to Latino Review who was correct back in June: “…according to a deeply embedded trusted source, the reason Bourne 5 got pushed to July 15, 2016 is because Matt Damon is in fact back to play his signature role as Jason Bourne for director Justin Lin!”
