Marvel moves ‘Ant-Man’ release date up to July 2015
Marvel is taking advantage of Warner Bros. pushing its Man of Steel follow-up from July 2015 to May 6, 2016.
Marvel announced Thursday that Ant-Man will now open two weeks earlier than planned, taking Batman vs. Superman’s old date of July 17, 2015 where it will square off against WB’s untitled Peter Pan film directed by Joe Wright.
Wright has hinted that the movie could be based on the ”To Steal an Ant-Man” storyline, in which Lang steals Pym’s Ant-Man technology and then becomes the next Ant-Man.
Paul Rudd was first confirmed to be starring in Wright’s film, then we learned that Michael Douglas will play the original Ant-Man Hank Pym, so the casting aligns with the rumored story.
Michael Peña is also rumored to star.
Though Marvel is certainly taking advantage of the DC property’s move, but it raises new questions.
Batman vs. Superman’s new release date of May 6, 2016 is currently set directly opposite an untitled Marvel film, and Warner Bros. likely won’t be budging.
Expect that untitled second film of Marvel’s Phase Three (Doctor Strange possibly) to move into another 2016 slot.
