Marvel moves ahead on ‘Black Widow’ film, hires ‘Olaf’s Frozen Adventure’ writer

Marvel’s standalone Black Widow movie might actually happen. Fans have long clamored for equal treatment with some of the other Avengers getting trilogies, but nothing for Scarlett Johansson.

Variety reports that Marvel studios has put the wheels in motion on the long-speculated project and recruited TiMER writer/director Jac Schaeffer to pen the script.

The outlet noted that “this is still very early development, as the film has no greenlight, but naming a writer is the closest the studio has come to moving forward on a standalone pic. Marvel President Kevin Feige met with several candidates before tapping Schaeffer, and Marvel execs met with Johansson to discuss what they wanted from a Black Widow writer.

Schaeffer wrote the remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, titled Nasty Women, which will be made this year and will star Anne Hathaway, Rebel Wilson, Meena Rayann and Munich co-star Francisco Labbe.

She earned a writing credit on the Disney short which opened with Coco: Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.

A flashback film tying Widow to modern themes in the next phase of Marvel films is a likely approach, adding in a ton of other characters, so stay tuned for details.
