Martinique reports chikungunya confirmed cases up to 50
The number of confirmed cases of the mosquitoborne virus, chikungunya is now up to 50, as the public is called on to do their part in combating mosquitoes, according to a France-Antilles report today (computer translated).
The outbreak has prompted the communities to hold meetings on what the public can do.
“The question is not whether there will be an epidemic, but when and what will be it’s dimension”, said Christian Ursulet of the ARS.
The vice-president of the council in charge of mosquito control said the citizens don’t want mosquito control on their property; however, it is in the public interest to eliminate mosquitoes.
The enemy is only a few millimeters but it can overwhelm a population in a few weeks and lasting tire. The authorities hammer: “We must protect themselves from mosquitoes and destroying their houses!”
