Marco Rubio calls Trump a clown, campaign about reclaiming America
Republican presidential candidate and Florida Senator Marco Rubio took aim at GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, saying that the campaign is not about Trump but reclaiming America after seven years of President Obama.
“It’s not about Donald Trump,” Rubio said at Thursday night’s GOP debate in Des Moines hosted by Fox News. Adding that Trump is “an entertaining guy, he’s the greatest show on earth,” but the campaign “is about America, and a president that has systematically destoryed many of the things that made America special.”
“Barack Obama wants to change America. He wants America to be like the rest of the world,” he said. “We don’t want to be like the rest of the world, we want to be the United States of America.”
“That’s why Hillary Clinton won’t win this election,” he said.
Trump reportedly was angry over debate moderator Megyn Kelly and chose to boycott the debate, hosting an event elsewhere in Iowa, leaving the door open for the other Republican to take jabs and poke at the bombastic Trump.
Rubio’s remark is an extension of sound bite he used the day earlier while speaking at a sports bar in Des Moines, when Rubio said: “These kinds of theatrics by Ted Cruz and Donald Trump are an entertaining sideshow but they have nothing to do with defeating Hillary Clinton.”
“I know 90 per cent of the press coverage is on this whole thing ‘Oh, Donald Trump’s not going to show up’ and ‘Ted Cruz is challenging him to a one-on-one debate mano a mano debate,
“It’s an Interesting sideshow. Greatest show on Earth. But this is not a show, this is serious. We cannot lose this election, we have to turn this country around now.
“We are not going to win if this campaign becomes a sideshow. It makes for good TV but this is a very serious election, it’s not a game.”
