Mads Mikkelsen on Lecter and Will’s relationship in ‘Hannibal’ season 3
Fans are clamoring for details as the popular show Hannibal heads into the third season. As the cast was left for dead, star Mads Mikkelsen sat down with Digital Spy and talked about his role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the NBC series.
“Obviously I look forward to seeing what’s between me and Bedelia – I have a hunch it’s going to be interesting! But I’m definitely going to miss Will, and hopefully he will crop up in either a dream or a nightmare, a mental relationship so that we can actually spend some time together again in the show,” he says.
In second season’s finale, Mikkelsen’s Dr. Lecter was seen leaving with Dr. Bedelia (played by Gillian Anderson). That is after he left Will Graham, Special Agent Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne), and Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas) soaking in their own blood.
Anderson has been promoted to a series regular and the psychiatrist/cannibal will be in Europe together, revealed in the early teases for the show. Dr. Bedelia and Hannibal are said to “post as a couple” while hunting a new victim.
“Hannibal has the ability to say, ‘That was a chapter of my life, and I’m moving on now,’ and for that reason he can step over Alana like that, look up into the rain and not really be looking at her. That doesn’t mean that she didn’t mean anything to him, it just means that he’s moving on,” Mikkelsen says of his cold natured killer.
The great interview explores the star’s reaction to the bloody finale, thoughts on Will and describes the Hannibal Lecter character, saying “So obviously we’re dealing with somebody who’s not a psychopath in the classic sense – he has empathy, but he uses it to his own advantage.”
