‘Mad Max Fury Road’ star Tom Hardy to star in Spider-Man spin-off ‘Venom’
Oscar-nominated actor Tom Hardy is marking a big return to movie theatres, portraying Eddie Brock, one of Spider-Man’s most popular villains in Venom, a spin-off film project, which will be produced by Sony Pictures.
Sony Production tweeted, “Tom Hardy is Eddie Brock in #Venom, the upcoming film from Sony’s Marvel Universe releasing October 5, 2018 – production starts this fall”
Hardy played Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and reboots the character played by Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3.
Production is set to begin in the fall with a release date of next year.
Zombieland’s director Ruben Fleischer will helm the film set to star Hardy as the angry photographer, a antagonist to Peter Parker, who is consumed by an alien symbiote, transforming him into a half-human, half-monster creature.
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, among the stewards of the Spider-Man properties, are producing and overseeing the project. Amy Pascal is also producing.
Venom was introduced in 1988, created by writer David Michelinie and artists Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck.
Venom will arrive in theaters on October 5, 2017.
