Live-action ‘Snow White’ film adds Marc Webb to direct
Disney’s live-action remake project list is still very lengthy and their first film, the classic Snow White, just took a huge step forward with news that The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb is set to helm the film.
Variety broke the news that Webb is in talks with Disney to direct the film and the Gifted director is reportedly the studio’s top choice to direct the Snow White remake, which will potentially be penned by The Girl on the Train screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson, who is also currently in negotiations with the studio.
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the songwriting duo behind La La Land and The Greatest Showman and who recently penned an original song for Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin, will write new songs for the movie, which Marc Platt is on board to produce.
Variety notes that “The original “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” cartoon, based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale, was first released over 80 years ago. It was Disney’s inaugural animated feature film and became a massive success for the studio.
“There have been several adaptations of the classic tale over the years. Recent iterations include 2012’s Mirror Mirror with Julia Roberts and Lily Collins and Universal’s darker take, Snow White and the Huntsman starring Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart.”
There is no release date, but plan on 2022 at this point.
