Lisa Hermes murder suspect, Jerry Hermes, killed during firefight with US Marshals
Authorities say a U.S. marshal has fatally shot an armed Texas man wanted in the killing of his wife in front of her children.
The New Braunfels Police Department says Jerry Hermes Jr., 35, was fatally shot after authorities found him hiding in a Guadalupe County barn, outside of San Antonio. U.S. Marshal Robert Almonte says Hermes “engaged” members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and ignored orders to drop a handgun before he was shot.
“Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force searching the area located the suspect, who engaged them with a handgun,” New Braunfels Police Captain John McDonald said in a written statement. “A deputy U.S. Marshal with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force shot and killed the suspect.”
Hermes was sought in connection to the death of his wife, Lisa Hermes. Jerry reportedly shot her multiple times while they were in their SUV, a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban, with her three children in the back seat, and then fled. The children, who were between the ages of five and ten, weren’t injured, reports the Seguin Gazette.
“After an immediate search of the area there was no suspect found at the scene,” McDonald said.
Police obtained an arrest warrant charging Jerry Hermes for murder and he had been on the run before he was discovered in the barn.
No other injuries were reported.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
Investigators have spoken with other witnesses to the crime and are still trying to piece together the events leading up to the killing as well as all other pertinent circumstances surrounding Lisa Hermes’ death, McDonald said.
I have the real story. Jerry was not the aggressor in the marriage. Let me know if you want the details.
