Liberal Bill Maher and Neocon Bill Kristol spar over war and defense spending
Let’s get ready to rumble!!
On Friday evening’s Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, the liberal host took the son of the founder of Neoconservatism to task on the topic of defense spending and war.
During the debate over the consequences of U.S. military intervention in a time when the Pentagon is proposing budgetary cuts where Kristol found the minor defense cuts as a disaster to the nation Maher said after showing a chart of US military spending versus the 12 countries that follow, “Anybody who thinks that our defense is lacking is either lying or insane.”
Kristol then rattled off a list of big war liberals like the current President and former Secretary of State saying, “Do you really seriously think that?”
Maher basically said yes and went on to go through the plethora of things Kristol has been wrong about concerning US armed responses.
“Have you ever met a war you didn’t love?” Maher asked with a tone of exasperation. “I’m asking, is there any place you don’t want to intervene in?”
“I supported recent American presidents of both parties, yes, in interventions,” Kristol answered. “In Bosnia, where we saved a lot of lives. In Afghanistan, where we responded to 9-11 — where we made a mistake of pulling out before that. And in Iraq, where we removed a dictator. Yes, I supported all of those.”
One YouTube commentor said, “Bill Kristol is like Dick Morris: he’s wrong about everything. If he says it’s going to rain tomorrow, confidently schedule your picnic.”
