Lady Gaga visits Julian Assange at Ecuadorean Embassy
Ecuador’s Embassy in London says WikiLeaks founder and would-be refugee Julian Assange has had a celebrity visitor: Lady Gaga.
On Monday the 26-year-old American superstar singer posted a photograph of herself standing next to the 41-year-old Australian to her littlemonsters.com website with the caption: “No headline.”
the photo garnered a quick response from her fans, identifying Assange rather quickly – one fan wrote, “OMG, the Wikileaks guy with Gaga!”
The embassy confirmed Lady Gaga’s visit Tuesday but gave few other details.
An embassy spokesperson would only confirm that Gaga visited and had dinner with Assange. “People can visit him…but usually he has his own team set up the appointments,” the spokesperson said.
The singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, was just down the street at Harrods department store to promote her new perfume, “Lady Gaga Fame.”
On Tuesday Germanotta was in Iceland, where she received a Lenon Ono Grant for Peace in Reykjavik.
Assange is wanted in Sweden for alleged sexual misconduct against two women and has been at the Ecuadorian embassy since June, claiming asylum to avoid extradition. In August, he was granted asylum by the Ecuadorian government, but has not been able to leave London.
