‘Killing Jesus’ star Haaz Sleiman discusses playing Jesus, the story which ‘transcends all’
Actor Haaz Sleiman was born in Lebanon, grew up in a Muslim home and has the extraordinary opportunity of getting to play Jesus Christ in National Geographic’s Killing Jesus. Haaz spoke with Dispatch Radio about the role, the experience and confesses to how his own personal faith has changed.
“Do I trust myself enough?” Haaz confesses of the pressue he put on himself faithfully capture the character for “everyone who believes so much in this story or people of the Christian faith…people in the world all together…story transcends all. There was just a lot of pressure.”

Unlike a biblical film, such as Son of God or The Passion of the Christ, Killing Jesus stays rooted in history and the political dynamics that Jesus lived and Haaz says it’s good for the audience to see the Jews/Romans “hesitiate…they’re not sure (what to do with Jesus) and…to them it was a disturbance.”
Haaz opens up about his relationship with God, how the film changed that dynamic and likely will forever be changed.
