Killin’ it at the Prom

Prom night is one of the most fun nights of your high school life! It’s full of eating, taking pictures, and dancing the night away with your best friends. Memories from Prom night will be around forever, so make them good ones!

Here are some ways to make sure you feel and look your best on the special night:

Choose The Right Dress

Choosing the right dress is one of the most important parts of Prom! If you go too extravagant or too short, you might feel uncomfortable and not be able to dance all night. Don’t wear something that is too far out of your comfort zone, you want to be able to rock it! Here is a great guide from InStyle on how to find the best colors for your skin tone to wear.

Pro tip: If you choose a dress that is low cut or doesn’t have a back, use double-sided sticky fashion tape to keep it stuck in place! While you might think it is okay without it while you’re getting ready and taking pictures, the moment you start moving around too much you don’t want to realize that it slips. By then it’s too late!

Match With Your Date

If you’re going to Prom with a date, it’s a fun idea to match with them. In order to avoid moaning and groaning from your date, make sure to include him in the choice and maybe give him a few options that match your dress.

Some elements that you can match with your date are:

  • Tie
  • Bow Tie
  • Pocket Square
  • Boutonniere and Corsage
  • Vest

Pro tip: Your date doesn’t have to directly match you in color. Sometimes contrasting colors, complimenting colors, or patterns can be a great way to spice up your duo! You can even go the extra mile and create an outfit that goes along with the theme of your Prom night as well.

Spoil Yourself

There is nothing wrong with spoiling yourself! For this one night out of the year you deserve to feel like a princess. Go out with some girlfriends or get ready together and make a day of it.

  • Get a manicure and pedicure done professionally to pamper yourself. Sit back and relax while you enjoy the foot massage! Or, create a nail set up at home and invite over friends to do them yourselves.
  • Go to your favorite hair stylist for a unique updo. If you don’t think an updo will go well with your dress, ask for a professional blow out. Sometimes it’s nice to have somebody else do your hair for the night!
  • Go to a makeup counter and get your makeup done. Many make up counters will do your make up for free or will charge a small fee to have a full face done. If you have something more specific in mind and want something extra special, hire a professional make up artist for all of the girls. If that isn’t in the budget, help to do each other’s make up. It’ll be fun to put together each others’ looks!
  • Use a bronzing or shimmer lotion and get some extra glow. Make sure to apply it evenly and give it time to soak into your skin and dry. This way it won’t come off on your dress or your date!
  • Whiten your smile. Having a perfect white smile will not only make you feel more confident on the night, it will also make those all-important prom photos and selfie’s look even better. Try an at home teeth whitening kit or whitening strips to get your teeth extra pearly white.
  • Buy yourself a fancy perfume that is special just for this night. New perfumes are a great way to surprise your date or just make yourself feel extra special. However, don’t overspray and also test out the perfume a day or so in advance to make sure you really like it on!

Pro tip: If you’re planning on getting any form of a spray on tan, make sure to get it a few days before. This is because the tan will calm down and look more natural after a few days, and this gives you time to get rid of any unwanted streaks. If you’re planning on getting your hair cut or colored, follow this rule as well!

Create An Emergency Beauty Kit

Every girl at the prom will be thanking you for this. Especially yourself! Put together a mini emergency beauty kit to take along with you. You’ll need some touch ups for your look to survive all night. Some items to make sure that you include are:

  • Stow away some extra bobby pins. They will come in handy when those pesky hairs come undone from your updo.
  • An extra hair tie or two, one for a friend and one for you! By the time you are going home in the limo, you might want to throw your hair up and off your shoulders.
  • Pack double-sided sticky tape in case you or a friend needs some extra support anywhere on your dress. This stuff is a lifesaver when it comes to keeping yourself covered in all the right places!
  • Bring necessary make up for touch ups. Bring the lipstick that you applied so you can reapply after dinner, hors d’oeuvres, or drinks. Also make sure to bring blotting pads for when you get oily or your powder to cover up the shine.
  • A mini can of hairspray is always useful. No matter how much hairspray you put on at home, there is bound to be a flyaway or two! You can find mini sized bottles at your local drug store or grocery store in the travel aisle.

Pro tip: If you have room in your bag, car, or the limo and live in a rainy place, bring a mini umbrella as well! Nobody wants ruined makeup and frizz.

Now go and enjoy your prom night with that special dates and all your friends!
