Kevin Spacey, ‘House of Cards’ season 2 returns, season 3 approved by Netflix

The new season of House of Cards will premiere with all of its new episodes on February 14, but Kevin Spacey and crew got great news that the show is already being ordered for a third season.

Netflix made the big decision official today, adding that production on them is even slated to begin pretty soon.

The only real surprise in here is that the original suggestions were that this was meant only to be a two-season series. Netflix and the creative team behind the show saw the numbers, and also the popularity that the show to know House of Cards has a future.

House of Cards marked Netlfix’s entry into original series just one year ago. Critically acclaimed, it was followed by Hemlock Grove, Orange is the New Black and the revival of Arrested Development.

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos has said that he wanted more from the show. “I think if you look at the original House of Cards, there was a natural third season, and we could go well beyond that,” he said at a November panel.

Adapted for the U.S. by Beau Willimon, who serves as showrunner, and executive produced by David Fincher and Kevin Spacey, House of Cards’ first season scored 9 Emmy nominations and 4 Golden Globe nominations — including a win for actress Robin Wright.
