Kevin Sizemore previews ‘Woodlawn,’ Jerry Stearns, faith films and WNY Heroes

The exciting new faith-based film Woodlawn centers around the true story from an Alabama high school and co-star Kevin Sizemore talked with Dispatch Radio about the film, working with the Erwin brothers as well as many of his other projects.

Kevin opened up about meeting his real life counterpart, Jerry Stearns, who passed away just three days before the production wrapped. “Jerry and I became close friends,” he said, noting this “really shocked the entire production.”

See a photo of the pair together below.

Kevin details getting the script, describing it as “the fastest read I’ve ever had” and on the history, he also asked “how have we not heard about this…” referring to the Tony Nathan story, the high school triumph, a revival in the area, Alabama football.

“The Jesus movement happened back in the early 70’s, simultaneous to when this happened,” he said, quoting MLK and praising star Caleb Castille who plays the main character.

Woodlawn gained a lot of publicity after their appearance at the Football Hall of Fame. Kevin talks about the experience and shared a photo, check it out below.

Kevin talked the feel on set, contrasting that with a big budget film like Transformers: Dark of the Moon and working with Michael Bay. He praises Jon Voight, Nik Bishop and Sean Astin as well as the “intimate” approach of the Erwins.

Now Kevin is working on development, producing and writing, so questions come up – Trew Calling, Where Heaven and Hell Collide, Sinking Sand. He talks about the film, what fans can expect and “Bubba” the dog on Where Heaven and Hell Collide.

The Western New York Heroes is a non-profit helping veterans and Kevin is working on an exciting project with Chris Kreiger, a former military medic – get the details in the interview. Get more info on Chris’s group – www.wnyheroes.org
