Kevin de Leon, California state senator makes foolish anti-gun claims with wrong facts

California State Sen. Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles) is being mocked by gun rights advocates and gun owners after his inaccurate statement promoting a bill that would require individuals who manufacturer homemade firearms to undergo background checks.

anti gun speech Kevin de Leon California“This is a ghost gun,” de Leon begins, holding an unloaded rifle in his hands. “This right here has the ability with a .30-caliber clip to disperse with 30 bullets within half a second. Thirty magazine clip in half a second.”

The Blaze details the inaccuracies of his statement, here are some highlights.

There is no such thing as a “30-caliber clip” in the context of which he is speaking. He clearly is referring to a 30-round magazine. An ammunition magazine is different than a “clip,” but the two are often confused by those not familiar with guns.

Next point is that caliber refers the measurement of the width of a bullet or internal diameter of a gun barrel, not magazine capacity.

Fully automatic weapons are also essentially banned already, even if they are homemade. This point is key since his “30 bullets within a half second” math would be nearly impossible for a homemade weapon, but if that was the fact, it will almost certainly be considered an illegal automatic weapon.

A “ghost gun” is a weapon without a serial number which may be a homemade weapon or one created with a 3D printer.

Yes, the 3D printer part awed me that much.

How do morons like this get elected as Senators?

Let’s not get lost in technicalities: the beauty of the sentence was that it was a jumble of random words with no coherent meaning.

Having just said that, 30 bullets in half a second would be 3600 rounds per minute. That’d make it the kind of 300 pound gatling gun they put on helicopters!

At one point he said 30 magazine clip(s) in half a second. And there is no REAL machine gun called a Ghost Gun.

I’m grateful to the person who gave this fool the rope he used to hang himself.
