Kendrick Johnson, Jerry Jones, two Florida men, two separate train accidents and two struggles to survive
St. Johns County authorities are trying to determine the details of how an 18-year-old teen was struck by a train Friday afternoon and a Tallahassee man is in critical condition when a train collided with his truck in a separate incident.
Kendrick Johnson was walking near the tracks in West Augustine and hit by the locomotive. He was flown to Shands Jacksonville hospital, but his injuries are not being considered as life threatening, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The incident tied up traffic and closed the main highway, State Road 207.
Across the state, in Tallahassee, Jerry Jones, age 57,was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after his 2009 Mack truck collided with a train Friday afternoon.
The truck stopped on the tracks and the train, which was hauling 82 cargo cars, was unable to stop before hitting the front left side of the truck, reports Florida Highway Patrol.
The impact caused the truck to spin around causing it to hit a post containing fiber-optic cables.
Jones is listed in critical condition.
