Ken Ham set to use Bill Nye debate funds, publicity to complete Noah’s Ark encounter, Nye is ‘heartbroken’

While media outlets were quick to announce Bill Nye the victor in the debate with Ken Ham on God, science, creationism etc…, Ham is the one making headlines, announcing a big Noah’s Ark project.

Ham announced that the debate renewed interest, raised the revenue and is providing free publicity needed to complete the $73 million, 510-foot replica of Noah’s Ark in Kentucky.

A municipal bond offering by the city of Williamstown, Kentucky, site of the planned ark, raised enough money to cover those costs.

Ark Encounter was originally planned as part of a $150 million theme park that would include the attraction, but private donations to the project did not keep pace with the construction, so developers divided the development into phases.

“It was a challenging time, one that on a human level required a miracle to overcome. And God in His providence supplied our needs.”

After learning that the project would move forward, Nye said that he was “heartbroken and sickened for the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” according to AP.

“If he builds that ark, it’s my strong opinion [that] it’s bad for the commonwealth of Kentucky and bad for scientists based in Kentucky and bad for the U.S.,” Nye said, reports Raw Story. “And, I’m not joking, bad for the world.”

Ham said that the Nye debate introduced his views about the historical accuracy of the Biblical creation story to a wider audience.

Go ahead. Show us how they fit all those species on that boat, kept them from being eaten, and carried enough food for everyone. Oh! And I thought we all came from Adam and Eve but I guess we really came from Noah and his lovely wife. A replica will accentuate the illogic of the story and cause even the most faithful to question. I hope the county requires receipts so we know where the money really goes.
