Keegan Michael Key joins ‘The Predator’ as Conor McGregor was offered a role

While fans don’t know much about the new Predator film, directed by Shane Black, but new reports confirm that Keegan-Michael Key has joined the project.

The Hollywood Reporter reported the news that Key joins Boyd Holbrook (Logan, Gone Girl) and Trevante Rhodes to battle the alien hunters. Holbrook and Rhodes are said to be playing former Marines while Olivia Munn (Psylocke in X-Men: Days of Future Past) will play a scientist.

“The setting for the new story is suburbia, a place in which audiences haven’t seen the Predator creature in action,” THR notes.

Key’s main success as one-half of Key & Peele, an acclaimed, silly and blistering sketch comedy television and then appearing on shows like Modern Family, Parks and Recreation, Archer, Bob’s Burgers, and BoJack Horseman. He was omnipresent in 2016, appearing onscreen in Keanu and Why Him? while voicing characters in Storks and The Angry Birds Movie.

All of that said, it’s likely to presume that Key will be the film’s comic relief.

Sterling K Brown, Thomas Jane, Jacob Tremblay and 50 Cent are all attached to the new film as well.

While it’s just speculation, it’s said that “Tremblay will play the son of Holbrook’s character, an ex-Marine who discovers the existence of fierce aliens but finds that no one believes they exist. The son is autistic and bullied in school but becomes a key player in the fight due to his preternatural ability to learn languages.”

The Predator is set to arrive in theaters on February 9, 2018.

The UFC star Conor McGregor claims he was up for the lead in the film. During an interview with AnExperienceWith, ahead of an appearance on Game of Thrones, he said:

“I’ll tell you there’s a lot of offers that I’ve turned down. I got offered The Predator movie. There’s a new Predator movie coming out and the guys came to me – did you see that horse thing I’ve done, the horse racing? That was like three days solid work for a hell of a lot of money, for three days. During that three day course, the people from Predator who are having this new Predator movie, a blockbuster…They came in and tried to the sell the whole shit. “We want you to be the main guy and you’re gonna fight [the] Predator” and I’m like “this sounds brilliant! How much?”
