Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss will be back for ‘Matrix 4’, set to film 2020
The Matrix turned 20 years old this year and fan got to celebrate as Warner Bros announced a new Matrix film is indeed in the works.
Variety broke the news, and their report confirms that Keanu Reeves will return as Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss will return as Trinity with one of the Wachowskis returning to co-write and direct.
Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich on the Wachowskis returning to the franchise that catapulted their career(s): “We could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
Lana mentioned the sibling in a statement: “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
Variety reports that production could begin in early 2020.
“Plot details are currently unknown, as is how the role of Morpheus will be handled, originally played by Laurence Fishburne. Some sources say the role may be recast for a younger take,” they added, noting the first three films earned over $1.6 billion globally.
