Katie Couric to feature Naegleria survivor, Kali Hardig in October
UPDATE 10-7-13: It has been confirmed that Kali Hardig will be featured on Katie on Thursday, Oct. 10.
Kali Hardig, the 12-year-old miracle from Benton, Arkansas, who has captured the hearts of people across the country being the third known survivor of the 99%-plus lethal amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, will be featured on an upcoming episode of “Katie” with Katie Couric.

It was first reported that Kali was infected with the parasite in late July, believed contracted at a Arkansas water park. She was “critical condition” and treated with a variety of drugs including the investigational drug, miltefosine.
Despite overwhelming odds, great medical treatment and countless prayers from people across the country, Kali survived and was released from the hospital recently.
In addition to Kali and her family, the show will feature the Lewis family of the Kyle Gracin Lewis Amoeba Awareness Foundation, who son Kyle died from Naegleria three years ago, will be on the show to discuss the awareness issues related to this amoeba.
In addition to Kali, two other children in the US contracted Naegleria fowleri this summer. 12-year-old Zachary Reyna from Glades County, Florida and 4-year-old Drake Smith Jr in Louisiana both who unfortunately lost their battles with the deadly parasite.
The episode of “Katie”, although not confirmed at this point, is expected to air in early October.
