Kathy Griffin cries ‘Trump Broke Me’ as Alec Baldwin, Jim Carrey defend her
Kathy Griffin held a press conference Friday morning to address her now-infamous shock photo of a “beheaded” President Donald Trump, telling reporters that the Trump family has tried to “ruin” her in the wake of the controversy and vowing to continue to make fun of the president.
The 56-year-old My Life on the D-List star said the firestorm generated by the photograph has resulted in her firing from CNN and the cancellation of five scheduled performances.
“I don’t think I will have a career after this. I’m going to be honest, he broke me,” Griffin said as she began to choke up.
“If you don’t stand up, you get run over,” she added. “What’s happening to me has never happened ever in the history of this great country. Which is that a sitting president of the United States and his grown children and the First Lady are personally, I feel, personally trying to ruin my life forever.”
“He picked me, I’m the easiest target,” she continued.
Alec Baldwin was one who has defended the fallen Celeb: “Kathy….baby…I’ve been there,” Baldwin wrote before referencing his own political drama in 1998, when he joked about then-Representative Henry Hyde on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
“The whole Henry Hyde thing w Conan, where we bring out an oxygen mask at the end? A joke,” he recalled. “That’s what I thought. That’s what we intended. No one walked out of the studio and said, ‘No, we’re serious!’ No one. But all your gutless, weasels in the GOP insisted I actually threatened Hyde. They played the victim beautifully.”
“Kathy…f**k them. F**k them all. No 1 believes u meant 2 threaten Trump. Trump is such a senile idiot, all he has is Twitter fights,” he continued. “Ignore him. Like all the leaders of the other countries in the world. Ignore him.”
Jim Carrey weighed in on the controversy to ET on Wednesday, declaring that comedians are the “last line of defense” against Trump.
