Kat Dennings set for ‘Thor 2’ as ‘Lost’ star joins ‘Dark World’
The sequel to last summer’s “Thor” continues to finalize cast as filming will begin this fall. Kat Jennings was confirmed on Tuesday to be set for the sequel and “Lost” star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has been added as a villain.
Jennings was comic relief in the 2011 blockbuster as Darcy Lewis, the scientist sidekick to Natalie Portman. The “2 Broke Girls” star was confirmed by Deadline on Tuesday to be onboard for the second chapter in the Norse God film series.
Deadline reports that “it does seem that Dennings’ role has expanded from that of the comic relief sidekick she played to Natalie Portman in the first Thor,” citing the success of the CBS series as justification for the bigger role.
For Thor fans, news that Akinnuoye-Agbaje has signed on as a villain was exciting news on Wednesday. Variety reported that the actor, famous for playing Mr. Eko on ABC’s “Lost,” will play the villainous Algrim the Strong and Kurse.
Algrim the Strong is one of the most powerful of the Dark Elves and is manipulated by the evil Malekith (played by Christopher Eccleston of “The Others”) to battle Thor. Malekith betrays the Dark Elf to kill Thor, but is unsuccessful, Algrim falls into lava and is transformed into Kurse, who is twice as strong as Thor.
Kurse first appeared in Thor #347 back in 1987, created by Walter Simonson.
“Thor: The Dark World” will feature the return of Chris Hemsworth, Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Stevenson, Stellan Starsgard, Jamie Alexander, Rene Russo and Tom Hiddleston, all returning to reprise their roles from the first film.
Zachary Levi will also be a newcomer to “Dark World,” replacing Josh Dallas as Fendral.
“Thor: The Dark World” arrives in theaters on November 8, 2013.
