Kansas murder suicide: Kristin Florio-Gile killed by husband, Randy Gile, leaving behind six children

A Kansas mother of six young children was shot and killed by her estranged husband, who then turned the gun on himself near Derby on Saturday evening, authorities said.

Officials with the Derby Police Department and Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office have identified the woman as Kristin Florio-Gile and her husband, and killer, Randy Gile.

Both of the Giles are 33, leaving behind six children.

Witnesses have explained that shots were fired between a silver car and black SUV, which was driven by Kristin. Randy chased her in the car and ultimately sidewiped the SUV before getting out, shooting the woman and then killing himself.

Captain Brad Hoch with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office corroborated the account in a statement.

“They were in two separate vehicles and we believe there was a shooting out on the roadway,” he said. “We believe this might have started near or around Derby someplace and ended up at this location.”

Holly Thompson-Jerome, a cousin of Kristin’s, shared details of the couple’s troubled marriage leading up to the deadly shooting, which also left Kristin’s father, 55-year-old Richard Florio, injured.

“(Kristin) was a devoted and loving mother to six children: Kayleigh 12, Jacob 11, Alivia 10, Jackson 7, Sophia 5, and Colton 3,” she wrote on a GoFundMe page started to benefit the family. “She had been trying desperately to get out of an abusive marriage and was under a protection from abuse (PFA) order. She had even spent a few months in a women’s shelter. She had recently moved herself and her children into her parents (Rick and Lisa Florio) home and was undergoing an Emergency divorce.”

Randy Gile was booked last month for seven counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal threat. Holly stated that the family thought Randy was still in jail “because of recent documented threats towards Kristin and children.”

The family’s GoFundMe page, which was started to help cover Kristin’s funeral expenses as well as her children’s future expenses.

Full statement on that page reads:

Kristin Florio-Gile was murdered on Saturday, October 6th in Derby, KS. She was a devoted and loving mother to six children: Kayleigh 12, Jacob 11, Alivia 10, Jackson 7, Sophia 5, and Colton 3. She had been trying desperately to get out of an abusive marriage and was under a protection from abuse (PFA) order. She had even spent a few months in a women’s shelter. She had recently moved herself and her children into her parents (Rick and Lisa Florio) home and was undergoing an Emergency divorce.

Kristin and family thought her husband was in jail (because of recent documented threats towards Kristin and children). So Kristin and her dad Rick went to the home to put the kids bunk beds in Ricks truck and clothing in Kristin’s SUV. Upon leaving the residence they noticed a silver car but were not alarmed as it was not familiar. The husband had rented the car and was following Rick and began shooting at him. Rick was hit 3 times on the side of his stomach (1 grazed, 1 puncture, and 1 metal piece- he is ok). Rick tried everything in his power to protect Kristin who was in her SUV and was desperately trying to get away but the husband side-swiped her and ran her off road. He then shot Kristin and then took his own life.

Kristin had been working with a social worker who had her sign paperwork so that her parents could gain custody of the children if anything would have happened to her.

This account has been created to block scammers and help with immediate needs. There is a 2.9% fee plus 30 cents per donation that gofundme charges so if you prefer to mail checks directly to Rick and Lisa Florio – no problem! They are also looking into a memorial fund through the bank as well.

UPDATE: For those asking about sending donations directly to the bank, here is the information: Please make checks payable to ‘Florio Educational Fund’ and you can bring to any Emprise Bank location. If you would prefer to mail your check, the address is: P.O. Box 2970, Wichita, KS 67201. Thank you so incredibly much!

Immediate needs: funeral expenses for Kristin as she was a stay at home mom, vehicle to hold 8 people so they can all ride together, clothing, shoes, winter coats, toiletries, sports equipment, school supplies, daycare, etc for kids. There is also a meal train being set up to help with food.

I have listed Lisa as the beneficiary of this money, I will not have access. I am Kristin’s cousin. My mom (Kathy Florio Thompson) and Rick are siblings. Information was given to me by Jessica Florio-King (Kristin’s sister) with permission to share. Other siblings of Kristin are: Anna and Alli.

Thank you for prayers and support during this difficult time.
