K9 unit credited with arrest of two Florida men, Joshua Coleman and Charles Smith, wanted in shooting incident

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office is crediting the work its K9 unit for the arrest of two men tied to a shooting and assault on four individuals.

Joshua Seth Coleman and Charles Vernon Smith Jr were both apprehended after a K9, Deuce, tracked the pair over half a mile in one direction and another who was hiding under water.

On November 8, police report that two kicked in the back door of a Plant City residence, shot three people and beat another with a gun.

Police responded to the report of “shots fired” to witness an SUV racing away from the home. The vehicle crashed through a fence and then was stuck in a swamp. K9 Duece tracked Smith over half a mile finding him under water.

Deuce tracked Coleman in the other direction where the man was also trying to hide under water.

The face the following charges:

  • Armed Robbery Home Invasion
  • Aggravated Battery with/Firearm (4 Counts)
  • Aggravated Assault w/Firearm (3 Counts)
  • Felony Possession of Firearm
  • Grand Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Grand Theft
  • Resisting Arrest w/o Violence

All four victims (Andrew Burgess, Jesse Kinsinger, Toby O’Steen, and Rene Kinsinger) were transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
