‘Justified’ season 6: Creators ‘don’t know’ how it will end
The FX hit show Justified returned for the sixth and final season this week and while the production is filming episode ten, the creative team claim to be a bit unsure how the show will “wrap up.
“We absolutely don’t know how this is going to end yet,” executive producer Graham Yost told reporters at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena.
“We’ve all been talking about the ending,” he said, adding that it’s been an ongoing conversation since season three. “It changes every year.”
Yost said they decided to end the series now rather than “outstay our welcome.”
Star Timothy Olyphant confessed he was looking forward to wrapping up the show.
“Usually, when things end, I’m not the first person to find out. So that’s been lovely. I think it’s been wonderful to just be able to see the finish line and enjoy it.”
“All I’m prepared for is I’m going to be unemployed in a few weeks, and I’m going to have to say yes to some s–ty a– f–ing jobs,” he said. “All the jobs I’ve said no to in the last five years, I’m going to say yes to in about six weeks.”
Fans expect, which has been teased in previews, that Olyphant’s Raylan will face Walton Goggins in one last showdown, to which Olyphant admitted that “It’s going to be depressing,” he said. “It’s going to be sad.”
“Timothy has been pitching for a long time that Raylan goes out to Hollywood and becomes a technical adviser for a Western show [like they have on Justified],” Yost explained. “If[Raylan] survives.”
This event was a great preview to the popular show: Olyphant says he’s been stealing from Sam Elliott for years and is thrilled to be working with him (Elliott will debut in episode two). “In my case, it’s also really nice to actually play someone who is truly evil,” Mary Steenburgen said of her scenes with Elliott’s character.
Justified airs Tuesdays at 10pm on FX.
Please give your fans a break and don’t kill Raylan off at the end. I don’t want to finish this series feeling sad and depressed – we have to experience that every day as it is when we turn on the news. It will ruin the whole series for most of us and who will want to purchase the series and enjoy it again and again when it ends so tragically!
