‘Jurassic World’ star Jake Johnson joins ‘The Mummy’ with Tom Cruise
The cast of 2017’s The Mummy, the first installment in Universal’s planned Monster Movie Universe, seems to be shaping up as Jake Johnson has reportedly signed on.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Johnson, a star in Universal’s Jurassic World and Fox’s New Girl, will join Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) in the upcoming Alex Kurtzman-directed reboot.
He’ll play a member of the military, a role that is said to have been written specifically for him. Cruise’s character will be a former special forces soldier. Kingsman: The Secret Service breakout Sofia Boutella will portray the titular Mummy and the new film is going to be set in present time.
Peaky Blinders star Annabelle Wallis is in talks to play the female lead, an archaeologist. Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange) is penning the script.
Johnson may be best known for New Girl, but his comic relief in Jurassic World resonated with the audience. He’s also had roles in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, No Strings Attached, 21 Jump Street, Safety Not Guaranteed, Drinking Buddies, The Lego Movie, Neighbors, & his leading role in Let’s Be Cops.
Universal has slated The Mummy to arrive in theaters on June 9, 2017
