‘Jurassic World’ director Colin Trevorrow rumored favorite for ‘Star Wars 9’
Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has been hired by Lucasfilm to direct Star Wars: Episode 9, according to new reports just ahead of San Diego Comic-con. While nothing was made official, Heroic Hollywood first report the news and other outlets are “maintaining” that the deal is done.
Written by Looper’s Rian Johnson, Star Wars: Episode IX will presumably close out the new trilogy, but expect Disney to push for a larger, greater, “Marvel-style” universe that can continue past this first onslaught of films.
Heroic Hollywood claims that Lucasfilm was planning to announce an Episode IX director at the Comic Con panel, but could never get a good enough confirmation. Lucasfilm held the tech run-through of their panel in Hall H just hours before the new report.
In November 2012, a rumor was widely reported that Colin Trevorrow was up for directing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it turns out that it was only partially true, since Kathleen Kennedy wanted Brad Bird to direct Episode 7.
Bird was busy with Tomorrowland, but offered up the filmmaker he trusted and reminded of himself, Trevorrow, to prep the film for him.
Trevorrow has declined the chance to grow the Jurassic franchise, not returning for the sequel, even though the first film has grossed almost $1.5 billion at the global box office.
