‘Jurassic World 3’ will not be an all out war between dinosaurs and human, says Colin Trevorrow
Creators set up a third film in the closing scenes of 2018’s blockbuster Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom as the dinosaurs were set loose on the unsuspecting planet. Now writer-director Colin Trevorrow, who is returning to the Jurassic franchise to helm the new film, has nixed the idea that we might see a world overrun by genetically smarter dinosaurs.
“I just have no idea what would motivate dinosaurs to terrorize a city,” Trevorrow told Jurassic Outpost. “They can’t organise. Right now we’ve got lethal predators in wild areas surrounding cities all over the world. They don’t go pack hunting for humans in urban areas. The world I get excited about is the one where it’s possible that a dinosaur might run out in front of your car on a foggy backroad, or invade your campground looking for food. A world where dinosaur interaction is unlikely but possible—the same way we watch out for bears or sharks.”
Trevorrow added that “We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price, but we don’t go to war with them. If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago.”
Regarding the new film he had these previous comments about Jurassic World 3 back in April, when he described it as a “science thriller”: “If I could contextualise each film, I would say Jurassic World was an action adventure, Fallen Kingdom is kind of a horror suspense film, and Jurassic World 3 will be a science thriller in the same way that Jurassic Park was.”
The new film will see Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, BD Wong, Jeff Goldblum, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda and Isabella Sermon, all back to reprise their respective role from previous film(s). While Pratt and Howard are the only confirmed returning cast, Wong and Sermon seem so important to the direction of the story that it seems impossible to not have them back.
Goldblum’s brief role as Ian Malcolm created some positive buzz for the film, so another appearance would seem like a smart move.
Jurassic World 3 is set for release on June 11, 2021.
